The dregs of summer

See these people?

They're cute right?  Well, don't let the cuteness fool you.  Because just when you are thinking about how much you are going to miss them when they go back to school, and how well they have gotten along, and how much fun you've had this summer...they become this.....

and they say something like "FINE!"  or "SAR-EEEE!!"  Which is neither fine nor apologetic by the way. 

And then you go from this....

to saying "PARDON ME?!" with a raised eyebrow, squinty eyes, and curled lip.  You no longer want to hug them but instead are thinking about pinching their little heads off of their shoulders. 

And then you begin thinking about how much you are looking forward to them going back to school, and how glad you will be to have someone else be in charge of them for 8 hours a day.
